Exhibition on world’s Eucharistic Miracles
PENANG: The Vatican International Exhibition on the Eucharistic Miracles of the World was held in Penang on Aug 6 and 7 at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows (City Parish). The exhibition, which was sponsored by the Real Presence Eucharistic Education and Adoration Association, was brought in by Dr Aloysius Raj, from the parish of Immaculate Conception, Penang.
Fr Dominic Santhiyagu, the parish priest, opened the exhibition after the Sunset Mass on 6 Aug, by cutting a red ribbon. Before that, Dr Aloysius Raj gave a short speech, in which he explained a little about the exhibition. The Exhibition consists of Eucharistic miracles that had taken place throughout the ages in various countries.
All these miracles have been recognised and approved by the Church. By means of panels displaying colourful attractive photographs, accompanied by historical descriptions of each miracle (and maps), one will be taken on a ‘virtual tour’ to the places where the miracles took place.
Forty-four panels, showing the miracles on exhibit were painstakingly done by Dr Aloysius and his wife, Jaycinta. He had contacted Vatican International Exhibition for materials and advice on how to set up the exhibition.
“It is a blessing that we have the Eucharist,” said Dr Aloysius, “The Eucharist is the main focus of our faith as Catholics, therefore I would like to see as many people as possible to be aware of the miracles of the Eucharist.”
“The Vatican wanted us to promote the exhibition,” he continued. “Thus, I made it my mission to bring the exhibition to all parishes in Malaysia. We plan to add another six panels soon to the exhibition. Our next stop will be at St Anthony’s Church in Teluk Intan, Perak.” Fr Dominic Santhiyagu was glad his parish was the first to host the exhibition.
“The exhibition can create awareness of the Eucharist among the people of God.” he said, “Our spiritual lives are focused on the Eucharist, therefore I welcome this kind of exhibition, and hope that more will be organised.” According to the Real Presence’s website (http://therealpresence.org/ eucharst/mir/a3.html), the exhibition has already visited more than one thousand parishes in Italy and in other countries and has been translated into numerous languages. Aug 6, 2011 was the first time it was exhibited in Malaysia.
A great promoter of the exhibition, Msgr Raffaello Martinelli of the St Ambrose & St Charles Basilica, Rome, wants the exhibition to be shown in every parish in the world, to encourage evangelisation.
