The event with the simple theme of ‘Christmas Joy’ began with the parish priest, Fr Dominic Santhiyagu giving a short speech. He explained what is the meaning of joy.
He said that the J stands for Jesus, O for others and Y for you. Without these three present, there will be no joy.
Before the entertainment, there was a video show on the meaning of Christmas shown.
There were lots of entertainment from the different communities. Two young men from the Filipino Community of Penang presented an energetic break-dance. The Catechism children of various ages then presented two dances. Next up was a graceful dance presented by eight Indonesian ladies. The final dance, see two young ladies and a child thrilling the audience with a fast number Indian dance.
The choir from the various language groups (English, Chinese, Tamil, Tagalog) joined in the Christmas joy one by one as they presented their rendition of Christmas carols in the various languages.
There were several games for adults and children, with prizes for the winners. The event ended with dinner. – by Lucia Lai
