OLS Youth Choir growing together as family of faith

olschoir2PENANG: Our Lady of Sorrows Youth Choir is among the newest ministries in City Parish, formed in January this year to allow youths in the parish to sing their hearts for God.

Since its inception, the youth choir has grown tremendously and has not only served the parish for Sunday Masses, but it also provides members with soft skills and activities to enrich their faith.

The OLS Youth Choir also aspires to work together in building the Kingdom of God, and to be a family united in faith.

One of such activities is a Pilgrimage to the Church of Divine Mercy in Sungai Ara on August 7, one of the designated churches for the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

The members went on a Walk of Mercy before entering the Holy Door. Some of them also renewed their baptismal vows at the immersion pool.

Choir coordinator Aaron Lim said the pilgrimage was held to enable members to receive the mercy of God, and at the same time lead a more prayerful life.

“In the Year of Mercy I am reminded to always seek forgiveness and forgive others,” said Jocelyn Choo who remarked that it was also her first pilgrimage.

In order to raise funds for upcoming choir activities, a Coffee Morning sale was also initiated on August 28 at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.

The members prepared a variety of food items, and worked together to sell them to parishioners who attended the morning Masses.

Senior member Sereeta Sarah said such fundraising activities “allowed all members to stand by each other, and mature as an individual.”

Assistant parish priest Fr Joachim Robert was encouraged by the response of the youths towards the growth of their ministry.

“This is a great opportunity for the youths to come together, be active and participate in the life of the church,” he said.
