Solemn celebration of Saturday Novena for OLS Feastday

Very often, people tend to overlook Marian devotions which can actually lead us closer to Jesus and deepen our faith life.

This year, City Parish chose to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows by reviving the age-old Novena devotion and traditions. From July 23 to Sept 17, parishioners and Catholics from all over Penang Island gathered at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows (OLS) for the Solemn Celebration of Saturday Novena.

9 weeks of novena

In conjunction with our Our Lady of Sorrows feast day on September, 9 weeks of Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be held beginning from 23 July and culminating on 17 September, with the feast day celebration.

Feastday celebrated with Mass in BECs

The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows in City Parish was celebrated in a different tone this year. Instead of the usual triduum Masses, the parish priests decided to bring the feastday to the homes — through Masses in the BECs.
The various BEC zones responded readily towards the call of the parish. For the first two weeks of September, Fr Nelson Chitty (parish priest) and Fr Joachim Robert (assistant parish priest) visited each zone to celebrate Mass with the parishioners.
