The City Parish of Georgetown, normally a quiet placid parish was catapulted into the limelight on Sunday, January 26, and Monday, January 27, 2014.
On Sunday morning, January 26, as parishioners of the Church of St John Britto, (one of the four Churches that make up the City Parish), prepared for Mass at 8 am, they noticed a banner with the words Allah is Great and Jesus is the Son of Allah on the fence. It was promptly taken down and a police report was lodged immediately.
At 8.40am, that same morning another similar banner was found by parishioners who arrived early for the morning Mass at the second oldest Catholic Church in Malaysia, the Assumption Church. The banner was taken down and a police report was also lodged.
